“Wine to me is passion. It’s family and friends. It’s warmth of heart and generosity
of spirit. Wine is art. It’s culture. It’s the essence of civilization and the art of living.”

- Robert Mondavi, from “Harvests of Joy.”

What We Do

In many ways, Robert Mondavi was the spiritual godfather of Val de Grace Books. Bob taught us -- as he taught millions of others -- that fine wine was far more than a healthy, exhilarating tonic for body, mind, and spirit. He taught us that growing top-quality grapes and crafting beautiful wines was a civilizing endeavor, one that elevates the people and the culture devoted to the cause. We feel the exact same way about mentoring authors and publishing beautiful books. And so it was that 18 years ago, inspired by Robert Mondavi, we created Val de Grace Books. And we have been creating award-winning books ever since...

Lineage: Life, Love and Six Generations in California Wine

By Steven Kent Mirassou

“Steven Kent Mirassou clearly has a passion for making wine and this radiates from every page of his book. But Mirassou also has a passion for people, a passion for healthy food, and a passion for writing. He has crafted every line of this book much as he crafts his very fine wines, and his life. Give the book Lineage a taste. You’ll finish it and be glad you did.”

― James Patterson, celebrated New York Times best-selling author.

Val de Grâce was honored to bring to American readers this award-winning children’s book from the Czech Republic. Typo and Skim are two little elves with very unusual parents. Typo’s mom is always nagging him that his room isn’t messy enough! And Skim’s family runs a stains and mold farm! Through their story, kids are introduced to the sophisticated scientific concept of entropy. The influential Kirkus Reviews raved: “Typo and Skim is a don’t-miss book for science-minded middle schoolers.” The book earned three major awards: for its story, its illustrations and its sophisticated design.

Where Were You On 9/11?

On that fateful morning, Gordon Mott was in Lower Manhattan, close to that horrific scene. Close enough, in fact, to have those two hijacked planes and the resulting destruction seared permanently into his psyche. But out of that national and personal trauma, Gordon brings us Caleb Drake, a good man caught up in another brutal terrorist attack, this time on 10/10. The resulting novel is a brilliant psychological study of what happens to a group of men and women thrown together on another fall morning in greater Manhattan. Available now at Amazon.com and your local bookstore. As Ana Navarro, a star anchor at CNN, raved: “This must-read is a clear-eyed look at how terror traumatizes everyone and why it is important that we never overlook what it has done to each of us.”

“Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.”

- Bob Dylan
